Prayer as in Caring?2004.03.18
About 2 weeks ago I was talking to one of my best friends. When she offered to pray for me regarding an important decision I made earlier, I told her, "I really would like to thank you for that. But you know what? I would be more happy to hear just a few caring words from you, like those short conversation we had in the past few days, rather than 100000 times prayer for me."I know I was quite mean at that moment. However, from a non-believer's perspective, I perceive one would pray for others only when they care about someone, but not to the level to approach that particular individual in a human way. Of course, I am more that happy to take any form of care from my friends, but from a somewhat selfish point of view I am hoping a little bit more than that.I understand Christians don't look at praying for others in the way I do, but my stand is, if I want to show my friends that I care about them, I would make sure that they get my message rather than just talking to the air and hoping that the target would get that through some-thing.Mutual caring is an important building block in human relationship and it's all about communication. A key to effective communication is delivering the message through appropriate medium and appropriate time. Agree? I learnt this lesson in a hard way and that I know there is still a long way for me to go, but at least I am trying. My dear friends...thanks for your patience and please let me know how I can do better on this. There is no way for me to tell how much I value our friendship regardless of the time we have known each other.
